I have been reading that this year many wine growing regions have experienced early ripening (most evident by veraison, which is the color change of the grape berries) resulting already in harvests occurring earlier this year than in prior years.
We had a rather mild spring and early summer, with very warm weather not occurring till July. And I have noticed veraison here a little later this year than in many prior years. But even here this appears to be variety dependent. Our Turán, always the first of our grapes to start veraison, has, for example, completed the color change and Brix is already at 14, indicating an August harvest this year. Meanwhile our Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Tramini have barely started.
