I eat salads all winter. As I grow winter lettuce.

The best way to grow winter lettuce in my climate is under a low tunnel.

I have also used fleece, but the results are mixed. Many leafy lettuce do “okay” under fleece all winter, but do better (as in grow more) in a low tunnel.

Romaine lettuce under fleece can rot (the tight leave clusters store water, which can freeze, and cause rot when the temperature warms above freezing). Romaine lettuce is best to grow in a low tunnel.
