I plant onion bulbs in late summer to grow and overwinter. They actually do quite well, surviving the cold and snow. And it gives me fresh, harvestable green onions during the winter, as long as the ground does not freeze.

Onions harvested today, Feb 20th.

Even more winter onions in mid February from an unharvested patch.
What a benefit to live where the ground doesn’t actually freeze!

The ground does freeze. Then it thaws. Then it freezes. Then it thaws. I harvest during the thaws. It will freeze later this week. So I harvested a week’s supply today.
