My garlic were looking a bit… dry…. early this month of June. And I was fooled into thinking because we had one of the driest Mays on record, they just needed water. But when I dug one up, I saw, no, they were actually over ripe and past their harvest date. Three weeks earlier than normal….

But wait… it gets even weirder…. The garlic was not consistent in its growth. Some were over ripe, some were ripe and some were under ripe. I have never had that happen before. I did plant my fall garlic early last year, but would that account for the variation in growth? I do not know.

Left to right: Under ripe, ripe and over ripe garlic planted the same day last fall, and harveted the same day this month

It continues to be a very weird year. On many levels.
